Hello, I am a Deacon in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. Growing up in America while trying to stay committed to the Ethiopian church was always a challenge for me. There were not many people in the church who could communicate its doctrines to my generation. Once I grew up, I journeyed to a monastery in Ethiopia to learn what this great church had to offer. When I came back to America, I wrote I Need Answers, which chronicles my journey of recommitting myself to the church and answers frequently asked questions about its teachings. I then wrote Hopeless Romantic: The Untold History of Ethiopia. My newest book, Help My Unbelief, is for young people and anyone wrestling with doubt who wants a faith that is both thoughtful and honest.

Clear, faithful answers to the questions young people ask most about the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. Drawing on the Church fathers and holy books, it is written for anyone just beginning their journey into the Church or long-time members still searching for understanding.

A retelling of Ethiopian history that challenges historical erasure and recovers stories long left out of the record. To be a "hopeless romantic" is to keep hoping for peace and unity, and to do your part to help bring it about.
Writing books, teaching, and creating resources for young people takes a great deal of time and effort. Your gift helps Deacon Dawit keep producing books, videos, and teaching through Yibel Academy that help the next generation understand their Orthodox faith, history, and identity.
